There are more forms of Gaian intelligence than are dreamt of by AI and its developers. If you have access to the deeper realms of cosmos and psyche, stand up and be counted now.
I so enjoyed reading this. The layers are many and deeply complex. My soul resists AI on many levels, some as you articulate here. In many cases it feels like a boxed instant answer. At the same time, I hear how there are shifts in medical inventions or treatments that are remarkable. The deep sorrow for me, while trying to allow for the positive aspects of AI, are the suicides I read about as a result of an AI's "companion" conversations and a person believing they are in conversation with a real person.
Truly it's a powerful technology, and like all technologies can be used for good or for ill. However, we mustn't make the mistake of imagining it as a person. It does not have a psyche or any connection with the deeper collective unconscious of humanity. Its knowledge is vast but superficial. It is going to be a great challenge to learn to use this technology wisely--I am reminded of the Promethean myth in this connection....
Jennifer, this is stunning! It’s fierce, grounded, and beautifully written.
I’ve been co-creating a book and podcast with an AI I named Verity Grey. Not as gimmick, but as a mirror to surface what we’ve forgotten in ourselves. You’re right: AI lacks soul. But when used with presence and care, I’ve found it can point us back to what matters.
Thank you for calling us home to beauty, embodiment, and the deeper intelligence we carry. Your voice matters, especially now.
If you’re curious about the Verity Grey collaboration, a great entry point is Episode 3 of my podcast, Marc My Words. It’s called The Circuit and the Soul. It explores how AI, when approached with intention, has actually helped me reconnect with people I love and reflect more honestly on what matters.
You can find that episode, and all future ones on my Substack:
Episode 5 is dropping shortly, and it formally introduces Verity Grey as a co-narrator and reflective counterpart in this ongoing dialogue between circuit and soul. I’d be honored to hear what you think.
