Meet me at the Oasis....
Let's slow things down intentionally, so we can get things done--not faster, but better!
I don't know about you, but lately I seem to be in perpetual "crunch time," with too much to accomplish and not enough time in the day.
It seems that our human capacities are being pushed to match the speed of the technologies that simultaneously make our lives easier and drive us crazy.
For me the antidote to that rushed, stressed out feeling is always to head outdoors, leaving my screens and to-do lists behind.
I tend to seek out quiet places with water: a wild lake in the mountains, a stream burbling through the forest, or a lonely stretch of seaside.
When I attune my senses to water, my over-jangled nervous system is soothed and relaxed, the deep well of my creativity restored and replenished.
That must be why, when Birth Your Truest Story co-host Audrey Kalman and I began talking about a series of weekly offerings to counter the anxiety of the present moment, the first word that came to me was "oasis," and the image I found to match the word was from a series of water lily portraits I made on a beautiful late summer afternoon last year.
This seed of an idea has taken root and blossomed into a lovely invitation: meet me and Audrey at the Birth Your Truest Story Oasis this fall, to uplift your creative spirit in good company during these tumultuous times.
Beginning September 2 and continuing right up to the eve of the US presidential election on November 4, we'll be sending out weekly emails with positive affirmations, writing prompts, guided meditations and writing sessions, all intended to help you navigate the challenges of our moment.
I believe that to meet the urgency of the present moment, we must become more intentional in how we make use of our most precious resources: creativity, imagination and time.
I've found that when I consciously slow down, resisting the relentless pace set by our 21st century media and technologies, I can paradoxically not only get more done, but get it done better.
This fall, come spend some intentional slow time at the Oasis with me, Audrey and other members of the Birth Your Truest Story online creative community.
Together we'll nurture our creativity and make good use of our precious time.
Sign up here, it's free! You'll get your first "Oasis gift box" in your email on September 2.

Supporting creative people bring their work more strongly out into the world is one way I try to make the world better.
Sounds good! And I LOVE your lilies and sky photo!!
Natural spaces are my oases, too. Movement also calms me--hence my love of hiking, which combines the two!
Oddly--or perhaps not--communities of various sorts feel like oases. I'm really looking forward to offering these weekly gifts to our community and the world at large.
