Though the United States is currently in the grip of a Grinch—he whose heart is ten sizes too small—and a legion of wannabe Grinchies and Scrooges, there are still many Americans who are resisting the takeover of our country, standing up for honor and decency in a country whose beating heart—our government—is being suffocated by the rot and stench of corruption.
Many other journalists and columnists are detailing the twists and turns of the American descent into degenerate oligarchy, and the efforts of millions of ordinary and extraordinary Americans to resist this vicious takeover of our democracy.
I salute you all.
And I am here to say, on this Valentine’s Day, that we must not let those greedy narcissists—those liars, cheaters and fraudsters—break our hearts.
The one thing the craven Republicans now ruining our government cannot stand is to see people standing up fearlessly, their big hearts blazing with love and spirit, proudly proclaiming that they will never be intimidated into submission to a would-be American king. They will never bend a knee to a Trump, a Musk, a Vance, or to any of their henchmen, cronies and toadies.
This Valentine’s Day, sure, go get some roses and smooch with your sweetie.
But also give some love to your community, your nation, your Mother Gaia—those larger bodies that send lifeblood to our individual hearts.
Don’t let the grinches and scrooges blind you to the beauty around you—the gleam in a child’s eye, or the bright flash of a cardinal—that offers itself like a balm to soothe and steady your jangled nerves.
Take in beauty wherever you can find it and share it with others. Take heart, fear not, the darkness always gives way to light.
You can help vanquish the darkness by making each day of your precious life a love offering to the world.
Yours, heart to heart,
Jennifer
Starting this month!
Come write and speak your truth with me in this powerful four-session Bioneers Learning online class!
In this hands-on class hosted by Bioneers Learning, we’ll look deeply at some of the major social and environmental issues of our time and consider how outstanding leaders have used creative expression to make a difference.
Inspired by these models, you’ll work on expressing your own ideas with confidence, clarity, and eloquence, in both writing and public speaking, coming away with a portfolio of writing, a recorded talk, and a circle of kindred spirits cheering you on.
Four Fridays, Feb. 28 - March 21, 2025, live online from 12 - 1:30 pm with recordings available.
