The Earth sings in countless voices.
Some are audible to my ears—
Birdsong
River rushing
Wind in branches newly wreathed with buds.
There are deeper tones that I feel as vibrations—
Terrestrial rumbles
Dripping stalactites
The vigorous digging of an earthworm in the dark.
If I had the patience,
I could sit and watch the unfolding of the first springtime flowers…
White, golden, pink and purple blossoms, opening their petals to the warming sun.
As my side of Gaia turns her face to our nearby star,
Her grays and browns transform into a cascade of greens,
strewn with the bright colors of Life.
Every day is Earth Day, here on Planet Earth.
Not citizens but denizens are we…emanations of the Earth,
animated for a time,
before we meld ourselves, sighing, into her bosom again.
May each of us Earthlings,
no matter what form our physical bodies take,
remember to give thanks
for the bounty that is our birthright.
May we open all our senses to the beauty that surrounds us each day,
and contribute our own song to the springtime chorus,
this Earth Day,
and every day.
